Dr. David Gibson is senior research scientist and Nadya Kozmetsky Scott Centennial Fellow at the IC² Institute, The University of Texas at Austin. He received his PhD in sociology from Stanford University in 1983 with a concentration in organizational behavior, innovation, and communication theory. Dr. Gibson was a Fulbright Scholar at Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, Portugal, in 1999-2000 and a visiting Professor II at Tromsø University Business School, Norway, in 2013-2014. He is a consultant to businesses, academia, and governments worldwide and his publications and papers have been translated into Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Finnish, Norwegian, and Portuguese. He is Chair of the International Conference on Technology Policy and Innovation, and currently co-editor of a special issue of the Journal of Technological Forecasting and Social Change: Global Shifts in Technological Power. His most recent book is The Entrepreneurial University: Context and Institutional Change, (eds.) L. Foss and D. Gibson (Routledge, 2015). His most recent journal publication is “Launching a Tech-Based Economy: Similarities and differences across national context – Austin, Texas and Tsuruoka, Japan” with A. Nishizawa, Interdisciplinary Journal of Economics and Business (Spring 2018).
